Who We Are
Michigan Stocks and Bonds (MSBO) was founded out of the collective ambition of student investors. Our goal is to help students turn their own ideas and visions into successful investments, and we have managed to back many success stories so far. Our focus is on actively investing through our 8 sector desks, providing investing education, sharpening professional development skills, and giving back to the community. We have now grown into a 60 member club, cultivating a community that seeks to promote both personal and professional development while having fun. Whether it’s a private speaker event or a group social outing on a Friday night, MSBO is more than an investment club: it is a close-knit group of students who can call themselves family and strive to better themselves each and every day.
Our Pillars
Investing
We employ a diligent approach to generating returns on a risk-adjusted basis through an investment style relying on top-down and bottom-up fundamental analysis. Through rigorous research and sourcing of investment ideas, teams across a variety of sectors pitch their ideas to the executive board and broader club. With enough member support, successful pitches will be incorporated into MSBO’s portfolio.
Education
We pride ourselves on our education program, teaching the most important and applicable concepts in markets and investing. New members will participate in weekly education sessions led by the VP of Education, which include both academic and practical applications of topics such as Financial Markets, Fundamental Analysis, Accounting, and Valuation. Members will hone these skills through club-wide stock pitches.
Philanthropy
Our purpose goes beyond investing. We are committed to furthering the betterment of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Detroit community. Whether it’s volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, teaching personal finance concepts at Ann Arbor high schools, or raising money for the Ukraine Relief Fund, members can make a positive impact through student-initiated philanthropic endeavors.
Professional Development
Our members go on to work at the top firms throughout the world in a variety of industries and roles. We pride ourselves on our strong alumni pipeline, exclusive speaker opportunities, and recruiting events. Additionally, new members will learn skills in crafting a resume, networking, interviewing, and more.
Sector Desks
As an analyst, you will be placed into one of eight sectors to pitch an investment idea.
